Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) - Tax Help 2025-2026
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteers provide free tax prep and electronic filing to low- to moderate-income taxpayers. Each year VITA volunteers help file over 10,000 returns.
Volunteers are needed during the tax season (January through April) as:
- Tax Preparers
- Tax Greeters
- Interpreters
- Quality Reviewers
No experience necessary. Training is provided! Flexible times and locations available.
You’ll help taxpayers overcome barriers to accessing their tax benefits.
- No experience necessary, training starts in November and continues through the end of February.
- Training provided to become IRS-certified.
- Work with a team of dedicated VITA volunteers.
- Choose the day, hours and location for volunteering.
- Volunteer remotely in the comfort of your home or at a VITA site.
- Volunteer Opportunities available in Davidson, Robertson, Williamson, Dickson, Lincoln, Rutherford, Marshall, Maury, and Montgomery Counties.

VITA is a rewarding way to give back to the community while earning up to 18 hours of Continuing Education (CE) credits for Enrolled Agents, CFPs, CPAs, and Non-Credentialed Preparers.
Volunteers can earn up to 14 CE credits by certifying in advanced tax law and serving as a quality reviewer, tax return preparer, or tax law instructor for at least 10 hours. An additional 4 CE credits are available by completing a specialty certification course.
