2026 Airport Disaster EXERCISE: Roleplay as Injured Survivors / Casualties
Hands On powered by UWGN has partnered with the Nashville International Airport, along with other Metro response agencies and organizations, to participate of their 2026 BNA Triennial Emergency Preparedness Exercise. The Hands On Disaster Program is supporting this exercise with the recruitment of volunteers to help fill specific needs.
As a volunteer signing up for this opportunity, you will be role-playing as an injured survivor or casualty involved in an aircraft accident. Specific injuries will be assigned to you as you arrive the day of.
Important Information:
- This event has TWO different volunteer opportunities for the same day. You can only sign up for ONE of the two volunteer roles.
- This exercise happens every three years for accreditation purposes. If your plans change, please remove yourself from the opportunity or notify us as soon as possible to ensure all spots are covered.
Other Details:
- Exercises are conducted in a controlled environment. Volunteers will spend time outside, therefore, please expect to get a little dirty, be standing for long periods of time and be willing to role-play from a “walking wounded” to a Level 1 Trauma with simulated broken bones or massive open wounds, burns, etc.
- Please know, if the event is rescheduled due to weather conditions it will occur the next day, September 25, 2026.
- Parking will be available for volunteers. Please wear your yellow/green HON Volunteer shirt. If you do not have one, we will provide you with one.
- Refreshments will be provided.
- Location details with be provided via email closer to event date.

The importance of volunteers participating in disaster exercises:
Exercises play a vital role in community preparedness and resilience by enabling whole community stakeholders to test and validate plans and identify both capability gaps and areas for improvement. A well-designed exercise provides a low-risk environment to test capabilities, familiarize personnel with roles and responsibilities, and foster meaningful interaction and communication across organizations. Volunteers role-playing as victims and casualties help enhance the realism of the scenario being tested.
