Community Wide Ice Storm Cleanup - Davidson #winterstorm26
What will volunteers be doing at this event?
Hundreds of our neighbors still need help cleaning up fallen limbs. You can be part of their recovery story! We are trying to clear debris from 50 homes in one day!
You may be helping neighbors who are older, living alone, or physically unable to clear their own property, as well as those who cannot afford the steep cost of debris removal ($1,200 on average). Let's show them that they have not been forgotten.
Volunteer activities include sorting tree and yard debris on right-of-way into appropriate piles for pick up. This may require lifting and carrying objects that weigh 20+ pounds. We will meet at a centralized location for registration and disperse into impacted neighborhoods within 15 minutes of the meeting place. Volunteers will carpool to service locations to be considerate of limited parking on residential streets. Groups are encouraged to carpool to the meeting location, as well, to limit the time needed to divide into carpool groups.
Who can participate?
This debris cleanup day is open to anyone age 16+ or to age 14+ with an adult. Groups that include youth aged 14 or 15 will need a 1:5 adult ratio. We will be moving from site to site along the cleanup route, so youth volunteers will need a vehicle available. Adult volunteers may carpool to worksites.
Important safety information: Closed-toe shoes and long pants required. Gloves and safety goggles will be provided, or you may bring your own. Current TDAP recommended. Chainsaws may be active in the area.
Please eat before you arrive and bring a water bottle, if needed. Restroom opportunities may also be limited in the disaster area.
