Weed Wrangle at Glen Leven Farm
We will meet on the porch of the house to sign waivers and get started.
Since 1999, The Land Trust for Tennessee has conserved more than 126,000 acres across our beautiful state. We protect a wide variety of private and public land in both rural and urban areas, including farms, parks, forests, scenic views, and historic lands. Our projects range from conserving 4,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau to a ¼ acre garden in downtown Nashville.
The Land Trust for Tennessee’s Glen Leven Farm is one of those protected properties. Glen Leven is a historic farm located just four miles from the center of downtown Nashville. The farm was given to The Land Trust in 2006 by Susan M. West, a descendant of Nashville settler Thomas Thompson who came to Nashville with James Robertson in the late 1780s. Today, The Land Trust for Tennessee conserves this hidden gem as a place that illuminates all aspects of its work –it is an historic, urban farm that serves as a recreational and educational resource and the office for The Land Trust’s Middle Tennessee staff.
The Land Trust for Tennessee is working to eliminate invasive-exotic plant species from the property in support of sustainable agricultural practices. This volunteer opportunity is the removal of invasive plants such as Bush Honeysuckle, Tree of Heaven, and Chinese Privet as part of a property-wide project.
Weed Wrangle®-Nashville volunteers will learn, practice, and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of invasive plants. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population in the Nashville area.
Weed Wrangle® is a one-day, area-wide, volunteer effort to help rescue our public parks and green spaces from non-native invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, vines, and flowering plants. Supervised by an expert in invasive weed management, Weed Wrangle® volunteers learn, practice and begin a habit of maintaining an area free of non-native invasive plants and encourage replanting with natives in removal areas. By engaging our neighbors and challenging them to take action in their own spaces, we hope to create a movement that will have the greatest impact on the invasive plant population.
