Fannie Battle Day Home for Children, Inc.

http://www.fanniebattle.org

Created in 1891 by Miss Fannie Battle, the Fannie Battle Day Home for Children is the oldest child care center in Middle Tennessee. Our mission is to continue the tradition established by our founder: to provide affordable, high-quality child care for at-risk children in a nurturing environment, while empowering families to reach their potential. Our mission is to serve families facing economic and educational hardships. We serve a population that lives in an area where the average annual income is significantly lower than that of the national average and single-parent homes are predominant. This area of Nashville is also home to Nashville's largest public housing development. Services are not limited by geographic location, but we historically serve families who are living in and around the 37206 zip code. Our program offers full-time, year-round, high-quality early childhood education, Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Pre-K, and School-Age Programs for 122 children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Tuition is based on a sliding scale according to income and families are required to be working or attending school. Without tuition assistance, parents may seek child care in non-regulated environments or forgo work and rely on government assistance. By providing families with the opportunity to work or complete school while their children are in our care, we are able to teach children, empower families and strengthen the community.
