Bethlehem Centers of Nashville
http://www.bethlehemcenters.orgBethlehem Centers of Nashville is the result of the efforts of an unlikely alliance formed by two women who were associated with local Methodist congregations. Over a century ago, an African American Fisk graduate named Sallie Sawyer and a Caucasian missionary named Estelle Haskins broke down the racial and gender barriers of their time in order to merge their respective services for women. By 1914, the Tennessee Conference Women's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church provided funding to house a kindergarten. By 1923, Bethlehem Centers of Nashville moved to its present location, and we have been helping impoverished North Nashville residents since 1894. Today our services and programs fall within four categories: Child Development, Youth Development, Senior Development, and Community Outreach. Bethlehem Centers of Nashville is a nonprofit social services agency and family resource center that promotes self-reliance and positive life choices for children, adolescents and seniors in Middle Tennessee by delivering and advocating quality programs and services.
