Visitor Services Volunteer
Shelby Bottoms Nature Center is seeking volunteers interested in conducting visitor services on a recurring basis. The Nature Center welcomes thousands of visitors each month who are seeking park information, trail maps and directions, and to enjoy the Nature Center museum. Visitor services volunteers serve as a friendly face to assist visitors with basic information and questions, and to direct more involved or complex issues to on-site staff as needed. Volunteers interested becoming a visitor services volunteer should be friendly, patient, and ready to learn some basic park knowledge.
The Nature Center is open Tuesday-Saturday, and volunteer shifts are available during all open hours after initial training.
Duties
- Greet visitors as they enter the building and provide a welcoming atmosphere
- Provide basic directions to amenities such as bathrooms, water fountains, trailheads, bike rental stations, and Nature Play
- Make visitors aware of resources such as trail maps, program schedules, scavenger hunts, and other items available in the Nature Center
- Provide recommendations for hikes or spots of interest in the park
- Answer natural history questions as knowledge allows, or direct questions to on-site staff
