Coordinate Volunteer Drivers for Cancer Patients
Help people facing cancer in your community get to their lifesaving treatment.
The American Cancer Society's Road To Recovery program helps cancer patients with limited or no transportation get to and from treatment appointments.
A coordinator, or lead volunteer, is needed to assist ACS with connecting more rides with volunteer drivers. This coordinator works the volunteer driver team and an American Cancer Society staff partner to:
- Answer questions from volunteer drivers about the program and scheduling tool
- Welcome new drivers & assist them connecting to first rides
- Review rides needing volunteers and contact drivers who haven't helped recently and/or may be available.
- Communicate ideas and feedback with staff partner
- Optionally, help recruit more volunteer drivers.
The time commitment is flexible per volunteer, approximately an hour a week.
Coordinating includes e-mailing, calling, and texting volunteer drivers regarding the Road To Recovery program.
This volunteer role requires the driver training plus one-on-one training for the coordination. Volunteer driver requirements: safe driving record, insurance, a current license. Lead volunteers are not required to drive patients, but they are encouraged to to provide a few rides for better understanding of the service if possible.
