12th Annual Community Beautification Day
This project day will begin registering participants at 8:00 am. From 8:30 – 9:00 am, participants will watch a safety video and get their safety vests, gloves, and any other equipment/supplies they might need.
Volunteers will also assign specific duties and routes during this time. From 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, we will be out along the Adopt-A-Highway route picking up litter and doing some light landscaping (weeding, raking, etc.). Afterwards, all participants will receive a signed certificate of completion from Judge Bell.
Volunteers will be working near busy streets and potentially hazardous litter. All volunteers will watch a safety video prior to starting work about best practices for handling these situations. MCCC will provide supplies for the project.
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and anything that they don’t mind getting dirty.
The General Sessions Music City Community Court, Division VIII (8) was founded by Judge Rachel L. Bell in 2012. Since its inception, the court has piloted several community initiatives focused on preventive, diversionary, and restorative justice focused on the concept, that “Justice does not stop at the courthouse steps.”® To that end, Judge Bell adopted a stretch of highway in the Bordeaux/North Nashville area to help keep this typically under-served area clean and beautiful. To date, the court has conducted 29 clean-ups with 6,431 volunteer hours, which have saved the Nashville taxpayers a total of $141,073.30!
