English Language Learning Teacher / Teaching Assistant (Woodbine)
Are you a Christian looking for a place to share your knowledge and help others advance their education? Then this is for you!
Begin Anew is a faith-based education program working to empower individuals to overcome obstacles created by poverty. We provide High School Equivalency test prep, English as a Second Language, and Computer and Job skills classes for adults, as well as mentoring and access to resources.
Under the guidance and direction of the Program Manager, ELL Teachers will:
- Provide effective instruction in English to a group of students at beginner, intermediate or advanced level using provided curriculum material. This will require some prep time outside of classroom hours.
- Work closely with and provide regular feedback to the Program Manager
- Develop relationships with students
- Teaching Assistants will provide support in the classroom, lead some classroom activities, and may be asked to lead the class when the teacher is absent.
- Uphold the mission, vision, and statement of faith of Begin Anew
Previous teaching experience is helpful, but not required. We are just looking for a willingness to serve and a desire to help others achieve their goals. Similarly, knowledge of a foreign language may prove helpful, but is not at all necessary. Our students come from many varying sociolinguistic backgrounds and all instruction is given in English.
Classes are held on Monday and Thursday from 6–8pm. We ask that volunteers commit to one 2-hour shift each week for an entire semester.
This position requires volunteers to complete an application and pass a background check. Training and resources will be provided to you by the Program Manager.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+, Minimum Age:18+
