Opportunity Details

Planting Daffodils in Shelby Park

What will volunteers be doing at this event?
Join Friends of Shelby as we beautify the park with daffodil bulbs ahead of spring! We will be digging small holes and planting donated daffodil bulbs so that they can develop their roots ahead of spring time. We will do this by digging holes with hand tools and shovels, and then covering the bulbs with dirt to pack them into the ground.

What is the community impact of this event?
Flowers popping up in the spring are one of the best ways to make visitors feel welcome at the park, especially near the Community Center, as it's one of our most accessible points of the park to the community. Daffodils are some of the first flowers to arrive in the spring, meaning that these flowers will provide some much needed color and joy to the park as Nashville thaws out from winter.

What should volunteers bring to this event?
Please wear close-toed shoes and bring a water bottle if you have one. If the weather is looking cold, please be sure to also wear long pants and socks to protect yourself from the elements. Tools, gloves, and additional water will be provided.

Accessibility/safety
This event will require participants to kneel down and get in the dirt, as we will be digging holes in the cold ground. Restrooms will be a short distance from our work site at the Shelby Park Community Center.

If you sign up for this opportunity, you will receive an email prior to the event with details regarding parking and any other information you may need.
