Court-ordered Community Service
Hands On partners provide many opportunities for volunteers needing to complete court-ordered service. Please remember that it can take time to get connected and complete court-ordered hours. Start early to stay ahead of deadlines.
FINDING A VOLUNTEER PROJECT & SIGNING UP
To sign up for a court-ordered volunteer opportunity:
-
Create a volunteer account here using an email you check regularly. (If you already have an account, skip to step 2.)
-
At the bottom of the page, check out volunteer projects that accept court-ordered volunteers.
-
Click on the opportunity that’s best for you, read the description, and click the “sign-up” or “express interest” button.
-
You will receive a confirmation email from Hands On with instructions for where to go and when, as well as contact information for the volunteer coordinator.
- Reach out to the volunteer leader through email to let them know that you will need your hours verified for court-ordered service, to ensure your hours can be verified. The type of offense or the volunteer's age may prevent participation.
VERIFYING YOUR HOURS
The partner organization you serve will verify your hours. Hands On does not verify hours unless we lead a project.
Take this form to your volunteer opportunity, along with any other documents you may need to have signed. Make sure to fill in the information and give it to the volunteer leader at the beginning of your shift to ensure they confirm your attendance in the Hands On system.
If you lose your court-ordered paperwork, Hands On will help you try to track down verification, but we can only verify hours that our partner has approved.
MAKING SURE YOUR HOURS COUNT
Partners are not required to offer or sign off on court-ordered service. Follow these guidelines to make sure your service counts.
1) Select from the opportunities below, and connect with the volunteer coordinator ahead of time to confirm that you are doing court-ordered service and need a form signed.
2) Arrive on time to the project and stay for the whole time.
3) Do the tasks you are asked to help with and actively participate in the project. Limit breaks to times when other volunteers are taking a break. Don't be on your phone or doing other work during the project.
4) Be respectful to the volunteer coordinator, other volunteers, site staff, clients, and other people you come into contact with during the project.
5) Make sure to get your paperwork signed and ask the volunteer coordinator to verify your hours in the Hands On system using this form.
