Volunteer with your whole family, or as parent/guardian and child together. This is a great way to do something for the community as a family and introduce children to the difference one person can make!
- Download our Youth Volunteer Waiver form.
- Browse HON partner organizations in need of group volunteer support, and learn how to create a volunteer team for your family.
Family-friendly Opportunities
A variety of volunteer projects open to families are available on our Opportunity Calendar. To view projects open to both youth and adults, use the "Age of Volunteer" filter, found under the "Basic Search and Search Options" box just above the Opportunity Calendar. Age restrictions vary by project. Check the individual project details for age specifications.
How To Sign Up Your Family
There are two ways to register your family for volunteer opportunities with HON.
- Create a volunteer team. This is recommended for parents with children 13 years old and up, and for families who plan to volunteer together regularly. (Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we are unable to store e-mail addresses for children under 13, so children 12 and under cannot be added to a team.) Click here to learn how to create and manage your team.
OR - Register each member of your family as individuals. To do this, each person must first create an account. Please remember that children 12 and younger cannot create an account. After you have signed up for the project, you will need to e-mail hon@hon.org and tell us how many children 12 and younger will be attending the opportunity with you (please include the name, date and time of the opportunity). All volunteers 13 and older must register online.
Other Easy Ways To Volunteer with Children
In addition to volunteer opportunities offered through HON, there are other fun ways to get your children involved in service:
- Conduct a canned food drive. Ask your friends, family, and neighbors to give canned goods. Then take the food to your local food bank or food collection site. Visit Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee for more information.
- Collect supplies. Spend a few hours collecting and distributing items needed for local nonprofits. For a list of supplies currently needed for HON Nonprofit Partners, click here.
- Conduct a kids’ book drive. Collect used children’s books at your school, place of worship, or neighborhood to donate to kids in the Middle Tennessee area who do not have access to books. Two organizations that distribute books to children and teens in low-income families are Book’em and Nashville Public Library.
